KARACHI: The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has decided that mobile police would be specially stationed in the city so that they could chase the law-breakers.

The RTA in a meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi Shafiqur Rehman Paracha took various decisions for making enforcement of traffic rules effective and to streamline the public transport.

The fate of the pending challans of traffic were also discussed and decided that all five STMs would submit the lists of the cases of traffic challans pending with them in the next meeting of the board which would take decision in this regard.

The meeting also explored the possibility of introducing a new bus route to provide transport facilities to the commuters of Khokhrapar. A proposal of introducing a new route from Khokhrapar to Fisheries was discussed and it was decided that officials of RTA, traffic police and TEB would jointly consider the alignment of the same proposal route and submit their findings in the next meeting to finalise the matter.

The meeting also reviewed the complaints regarding the fitness of the public transport and decided that DIG Traffic would take necessary steps for the effective working of the responsible officials with sense of responsibility.

The meeting was attended among others by the director TEB Malik Zaheerul Islam, Secretary RTA Maqsood Qureshi, all senior traffic magistrates and SPs of traffic of all five district, officials of other concerned departments.ÑPPI
