JI Jehad moot on 15th

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (women wing), Karachi will hold a Jehad Conference at Anoo Bhai Park, Nazimabad here on Tuesday, says a press release. The conference would be followed by an exhibition of photographs related to the on-going independence struggle of the Mujahideen. General Secretary, JI-Pakistan (women wing), Aisha Munawar, Sabiha Shahid, former councillor KMC and representatives of Mujahideen would address the meeting.ÑAPP

Wapda clerk caught taking bribe

MULTAN: A team of the Army Monitoring Cell, along with an Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Magistrate and an FIA party, conducted a raid at Wapda customer complaint office New Multan, and arrested a clerk red-handed with the bribe money. Sources said on Saturday that Ijaz Chishti, Sub-divisional clerk in the Wapda customer complaint office demanded Rs 2,000 for approval of power bill payment in instalments from Abdus Sattar of Basti Sharif, Multan. The Army Monitoring Cell received the complaint and an army team, led by a Captain, arrested Ijaz Chishti red-handed while he was receiving Rs 500 from the complainant.ÑAPP

WWF's Nature Carnival

KARACHI: WWF will hold a Nature Carnival for schools in Karachi, offering a variety of education-cum-entertainment activities for the participants, on February 13, 2000, at Karachi Parsi Institute. The nature carnival is part of WWF's environmental education programme. The schools will be required to develop 3-D models for an exhibition on various themes related to nature and the environment. There will be an inter-school competition and the winning school would be awarded shields and prizes by WWF. A funfair will be organised which will consist of games, stalls built around environment-related themes, lucky draw, puppet show and art exhibitions.ÑAPP

Fashion, textile designing course

ISLAMABAD: The National Training Bureau of the Ministry of Labour and Manpower is arranging a Fashion and Textile Designing course, starting from February 14. The course, to continue till February 19, offers training in block printing, hand weaving, screen and fabric printing etc. JICA has volunteered an adviser on the subject to provide training during the course.ÑAPP

Seminar on environmental challenges

LAHORE: Environmental Protection Department Punjab and Environmental Media Forum Pakistan will jointly hold a seminar on "Pakistan's Environmental Challenges in 21st Century" at S M Ayub Hall in IEP building here on February 28. Environmentalists, engineers, representatives of NGOs and other will participate the seminar, says a press release issued by Institute of Engineers Pakistan here on Saturday.ÑAPP

Teacher detention case

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Saturday sought a report and comments from District Magistrate Sheikhupura within 15 days in a petition against the illegal detention of a mosque teacher. The petition filed by Maulvi Hidayatullah Submitted that District Magistrate unlawfully issued his detention orders on January 18. Contending that he was never wanted by the police in any case nor involved in any objectionable activities, he prayed the court to declare the act of District Magistrate as illegal and void with direction to release him.ÑAPP

Detainees freed

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Saturday released six persons from the illegal detention of a landlord Sabahtullah of Nankana Sahib with direction to approach the relevant court against the extortion by their master for not paying wages. The petition submitted that their master was not paying them their wages for two years. When they asked for wages, their master unlawfully detained them in his private lock-up. Earlier, on the court direction, bailiff had recovered the detainees and produced them before the court.ÑAPP
