Advice to intending pilgrims

ISLAMABAD: All intending pilgrims for Haj-2000 have been advised to attach two additional photographs to their passports so that necessary Moalim cards are prepared soon after their reaching to the holy land, by the respective Moalimeen. The Ministry of Religious Affairs has also informed all the pilgrims that since the weather in Makkah Mukarramah and Madina Munawwarah is still cold, necessary pull-over/jersey should be carried during the pilgrimage. No refund of bus coupons will be allowed this year, it was further stated.ÑAPP

AIOU offers admissions in M Phil, MSc

ISLAMABAD: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has annonunced the admission of M. Phil (Physics) programme for the Semester Spring, 2000 from March 13 for Rawalpindi/Islamabad only on primarily basis. Out of more than 60 open universities in the world, AIOU is the first Distance Open University to start M.Sc and M.Phil (Physics) programme through its unique learning system, says a press relase of AIOU. Admission M. Phil (Physics) will be continued up to March 4, 2000. According to spokesman of AIOU, the students of M. Phil (Physics) could get practical training from modern labs of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) and Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) under which experts. ÑAPP

PAF test results

KARACHI: Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has announced the result of the written test for selection of GD (P), CAE and non-GD courses in the PAF. The written test was conducted on January 30, Directorate of Public Relations, PAF said here on Friday.ÑAPP

Bara Khana

ATTOCK: Artillery Centre Attock has arranged a Bara Khana in honour of Lt. Col. Pervaiz Iqbal who retired from army after the meritorious services of 28 years. Commandant Artillery Centre Brig. Hafeez Ahmed was the chief guest. Serving and retired army officers and jawans of artillery centre were also participated in Bara Khana. Brig. Hafeez Ahmad has lauded the services of Lt. Col. Pervaiz Iqbal and said that these will be remembered for long time to come. Later on a musical programme was arranged in which artillery centre band entertained the participants.ÑAPP

Six students served notices for expulsion

LAHORE: The six under suspension first year students of the Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology (ICET), Punjab University on Friday were served show-cause notices for expulsion on the charges of instigating their class fellows for boycott of the annual examination paper held on Thursday in city. The Director ICET Dr. Shafqat Nawaz told APP on Friday that 181 first year students of the institute were appearing in the combined paper of Islamiat and Pakistan Studies on Thursday at new campus. One of the student named Qisar Abbas along with few others students agitated that question paper is out of course and forced other students to boycott the paper.ÑAPP

School room established at Adiala Jail

ISLAMABAD: A separate room has been allocated in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi for educating the children of prisoned women. This has been done on the directives of City Magistrate, Farasat Ali Khan who visited the jail on the directive of Deputy Commissioner, Islamabad. He asked the hospital administration to place demand for the provision of medicines so that philanthropists be requested for donations. The prisoners appreciated efforts to introduce jail reforms.ÑAPP

Interruption in National Optical Fibre link

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation has notified interruption in the National Optical Fibre link between Bahwalpur and Rahim Yar Khan from 0000 hours to 0400 hours on February 13. The interruption will be done to carry out the essential maintenance and repair work on the National Optical Fibre link.ÑAPP
