KWSB to stop water supply to many areas for two days

KARACHI: Water supply to many parts of Karachi will remain suspended for more than two days as the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) would begin plugging of leakage in the main supply line and repairs at other places from February 13, KWSB spokesman said on Friday.

The closure would reduce water supply by about 65 million gallons per day (MGD). It would mostly affect water supply to Site industrial area, North Karachi, Surjani Town, Baldia, Shershah and Orangi Town.

KWSB has attributed leakage to frequent power fluctuation, and at times power breakdown. This has affected bulk water supply and rising line No. 6, the main component of the KWSB's bulk water supply plan, drawing water from River Indus.

The KWSB spokesman said the work was being undertaken on the instructions of the new KWSB Managing Director, Brig. Mohammed Behram Khan. Consumers are advised to store water and restrict its use to the bear minimum to avoid any inconvenience.

In the meanwhile, districts West and Central are already in the grip of water shortage due to faulty supply system. In the two districts water supply has been erratic for the last more than one year.
