PCMEA efforts for child labour rehabilition lauded
RECORDER REPORT
LAHORE: Ms. Marcia Eugenia of US Department of Labour has commended the efforts of Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMEA) in successfully rehabilitating child labour in the carpet industry through setting up non-formal schools and vocational centers with the help of ILO and other donors.
According to press release issued here by PCMEA on Thursday, Ms Marcia Eugenia, currently on a fact finding tour of Pakistan, visited a PCMEA'S school for working children in Shareef Pura near here. She talked to the staff and children and appreciated the working of the Sharifpura School. She was accompanied by Bono, Labour Officer, US Embassy Islamabad, Angie Bryan of US Consulate Lahore and Ms. Pin Boonpala, ILO Geneva.
She was informed that PCMEA has also set up a number of centers in various parts of the Punjab to provide non-formal education and vocational training to children working in the carpet industry.
