The overnight value of the rupee remained the same against the US dollar in the currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Wednesday.
The market resumed trading with a stronger greenback at Rs 54.10 as compared to same previous rate. It remained pegged to its morning levels and was finally sold at Rs 54.15.
Dealers were of the view that markets of the twin cities opened on a positive note as buyers and sellers appeared to be interested in trading of ever-favourite greenback and other currencies in the first session. The overall turnover contracted due to rainy weather in the evening session and market finally closed on a moderate note.
They said that couple of good news on the economic front helped the local currency to maintain its superior position in the kerb.
Other currencies showed mixed trend in the money markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi with moderate volume in dirham, pound and other European currencies, they added.
Pound sterling was up by 30 paisa as it started the day at Rs 87.30 as compared to Tuesday's rate of Rs 87. The pound fluctuated within the band of Rs 87.30 and Rs 87.40 and was finally sold at Rs 87.70.
UAE dirham was bought and sold at Rs 14.78 and Rs 14.82 respectively, Saudi riyal was traded between Rs 14.45 (buying) and Rs 14.48 (selling) in both the sessions.
Japanese yen maintained its previous levels at Re 0.493 as buying and was sold at Re 0.495 in the local kerb.
German mark moved in a tight band as it was bought at Rs 27.15 and was sold at Rs 27.40.
