Fresh fruit exports to Malaysia can be doubled

KARACHI: Pakistani exporters of fresh fruits are confident that they can double the exports of kinoos to Malaysia this year.

Pakistan's kinoo exhibitions-cum-fruit-testing sessions, the first-ever held in Kuala Lumpur, and the country's major port, Penang were a success, as officials diplomats corporate leaders, importers, purchasers from department stores and supermarket chains, and representatives of media turned up to witness the official launch of this renowned Pakistani product.

According to an EPB press release, the exhibition held in Kuala Lumpur on January 20-25, 2000, was inaugurated by the High Commissioner of Pakistan, Musa Javed Chohan, and the exhibition in Penang on January 28-29, 2000, was inaugurated by the Deputy Chief Minister, Penang Dato Dr. Halim Bin Haji Yahya.

An eight-member Pakistani delegation comprising major growers and exporters showcased the best of Kinoos , amidst compliments of those who attended the exhibitions. The rich flavour and high juice content of kinoos won over many visitors. They were especially impressed by the distinctive taste and fine texture.

The delegation visited fruit and vegetable markets, cold storage facilities, both in Kuala Lumpur and Penang. The delegation also met with Chinese, Indian, Malay chambers' representatives.

Organised by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) of Pakistan and the High Commission of Pakistan, the exhibitions provided a platform for the Pakistani exporters of fresh fruits to meet Malaysian fruit importers and traders to forge close business ties.
