Big Bird signs MoU with BD firm

LAHORE: Big Bird Group of Companies has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with M. M. Agha Limited of Bangladesh for export of parent flock and broiler chicks from Pakistan to Bangladesh.

Under the MoU, the Bangladeshi firm, after examining the quality of the poultry to be exported from Pakistan, will give their demand on yearly basis, which may be in millions of rupees.

This was stated by the Chairman of Big Bird Group of Companies, Abdul Basit, who is also convener of the standing committee of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) for Agro-based Industries, while talking to Business Recorder here on Tuesday.

He disclosed that last year their group exported poultry products of around Rs 25 million to Bangladesh, but later due to some reasons, the export process was stopped.

He said that they had already started exporting poultry to their previous Bangladeshi partners and now they had signed a MoU with M. M. Agha Limited.

Abdul Basit also said that they were making hectic efforts to export poultry products to Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Yemen and Syria. He was optimistic that poultry export to Yemen and Kuwait would start with in weeks.

He said that at present India was capturing poultry markets around the globe despite the fact that quality of Pakistani poultry products was far better than India.

He said the government should announce some incentives on export of poultry products including 25 percent subsidy on freight charges and 10 percent export subsidy.
