RECORDER REPORT
KARACHI: Sindh Governor Azim Daudpota said on Tuesday administration was fully prepared to meet any untoward incident after the October 12 plane conspiracy case was announced by the Anti-Terrorism Court on April 6.
He was talking to newsmen after the ceremony of conferring Best Media of the Decade Award to the managing director of Pakistan Television Corporation, Yusuf Baig Mirza, organised by the Pakistan Advertising Association held at a local hotel.
Daudpota said police force had been withdrawn from the interior of Sindh and increase in the strength of rangers had been made to strengthen the existing law enforcement force.
The governor said the entire police and other assisting force were on high alert for the last two days and they would continue to be there during all those days when trouble or deterioration of situation might take place.
He said the law enforcement agencies would be held responsible, if despite knowing the sensitivity of the situation, they failed to check incidents, lawlessness and terrorism.
He said decision to send considerable number of rangers back to barracks and deploy more police force to maintain law and order in Karachi had been held in abeyance.
The governor said the entire trial of the conspiracy case was transparent and both the sides, prosecution as well as defence, were satisfied with the proceedings.
He said the decision would be entirely on merit and there should be no confusion about that.
Earlier, Daudpota addressed the members of the advertising fraternity and a large number of TV employees and performing artists gathered to felicitate Mirza on being the recipient of the "Best Media of the Decade Award".
He said TV needed improvement in all areas and make it acceptable to viewers. "I never listen to Radio. Pak TV needs improvement. Your advertising also needs improvement."
Daudpota said radio and TV had greatly contributed toward the well being of the country. "We have to give credibility to our electronic media," he added.
Rasheed Umer Thanvi, president of the Pakistan Advertising Association, presented address of welcome and S. H. Hashmi, MD Orient Advertising, thanked the guests.
