$14 m Japanese grant-in-aid for plastic mould making project

ISLAMABAD: The Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA) will provide $ 14 million (Rs 736.35 million) as grant-in-aid for a plastic mould designing and manufacturing project at the Pakistan Industrial Technical Assistance Centre (Pitac), Lahore.

This was stated by the spokesman of ministries of industries and production, Ejaz Sharif Ghauri, at a press conference recently.

The project is to be co-sponsored by the ministry of industries and Rs 8.35 million for the project would be provided by the government through PSDP allocations. The memorandum of understanding for the project would be signed on April 11, he added.

This project is going to be the first major grant in aid provided by the Japanese government after nuclear blasts in 1998. Currently, a Japanese delegation of JICA is on a visit and held talks with the secretary ministry of industries and production here on April 3.

The main objective of the project is to transfer from Japan in plastic mould designing and manufacturing technology to Pitac, Lahore so that it could provide training, consultancy and advisory service to the sector.

The project would be implemented in a period of 36 months and the PC-1 of the project has already been approved by the Central Development Working Party.

The Japanese technical cooperation in the project comprises, (i) transfer of technology in the field of plastic mould making through CAD and CIM techniques and on the job training of counter parts by the Japanese experts in Japan and Pakistan, (ii) plastic mould, design, mould processing, assembling and tryout, (iii) supply of machinery and equipment.
