RECORDER REPORT

HYDERABAD: "All Sindh Commission pass hopefuls' action committee" has threatened to launch a protest movement, if the remaining 161 commission pass hopefuls were not given appointment letters immediately.

The protest movement will include the torching of university degrees, staging of hunger strike into death and self-immolation.

The decision to this effect was taken at the meeting of action committee held here on Sunday under the chairmanship of Advocate Inayat Ibrahim.

The meeting observed that between 1998 and 2000, 8 departments of Sindh Government had requested the Sindh Public Service Commission for the appointment of 433 candidates.

The committee's general Secretary Wajid Shah said that the commission accordingly held examination and recommended 433 names for appointment in different departments.

He said that the matter was kept pending for quite some time but later on 272 blue-eyed candidates of the government were issued appointment letters for six departments but 161 candidates of education and agriculture departments were not given appointment letters for want of funds.

Wajid Shah pointed out that whenever posts were advertised, funds were always approved in the budget for such posts.

He said that when funds were available for 272 candidates, there were no reasons why 161 candidates were discriminated.

The Action Committee Chairman Advocate Inayat Ibrahim maintained that Sindh Public Service Commission was an independent body and neither the governor for chief secretary nor the minister nor the departmental secretary had any authority to reject the recommendations.

He also quoted the judgement of the Sindh High Court in this regard, the meeting adopted a resolution threatening agitation if 161 remaining commission pass hopefuls were not given appointment letters.
