Add CE accountability
He said the provincial accountability courts are being set up and of the nine Pakistan Army corps, every corps will have two accountability courts. This hopefully will speed up the process of accountability.
He said that all the institutions going under financial loss like PIA, CAA, Wapda, KPT and Railways can be turned around if their management is improved. The government's endeavours to increase the efficiency of Railways have produced results. The trains not only come in time but the steps taken by the government have saved Rs one billion for railway.
Replying to a question, he said, his government would promote sports activities and honour the luminaries in the field.
On democracy, the Chief Executive said, he wanted to empower the impoverished. The deputy commissioners and superintendents of police have really to serve the people and will be under the elected representatives of the people. Justice has to be delivered at the doorsteps of the people he said.
He said fundamental rights are there, the press is free to criticise his government so there is much more democracy now than before.
To a question, Gen Musharraf said, he was aware that some people in Pakistani missions abroad have hired houses worth 14000 and 12000 dollars per month but this will be stopped.
To a question about customs, Gen Musharraf said, there is lot of corruption in this department but things will change gradually. "This has to be corrected and I will have to do something", about weeding out corruption from Customs Department, he added.
To another question that tribal areas should be included in Pakistan, the Chief Executive said, the step should have been taken after independence. However his government is studying whether FATA should be merged with Pakistan. To another question, he agreed that there should be an increase in budgetary allocation for education.
Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar in reply to a question said that Pakistan had been always trying to increase its friends. It has not one rather many friends.
Commerce Minister Abdul Razzaq Dawood in reply to a question of smuggled cars, said the government is considering a system as to how to handle this issue. He said he was aware of the fact that overseas investors were keen to have full information about the situation in Pakistan. Therefore, the government has decided to start one-window operation to facilitate foreign investors.ÑAPP
