KARACHI: The Belgian Cotton Group will buy 350,000 pieces of readymade garments every month from Pakistan. The Group is already buying different types of garments from 40 Pakistani readymade garment factories, all situated in Karachi.

This was revealed by Abid Husain, Trade Commissioner for the Walloon Region of Belgium on the eve of visit by a business delegation from Belgium from April 3 to April 9, 2000, to discuss promotion of trade between the two countries.

Abid Husain will host a lunch for the delegation in Karachi on April 8. The Belgian firms represented in the delegation are doing business with Pakistan.

Delta Nord has entered into a joint venture with a Pakistani company Macron Fisheries for the modification of the existing fishing fleet and for the manufacture of new fibre glass boats. The joint venture company, with two-thirds Pakistani and one-third Belgian participation, will be operative by June this year.

Comelec Schreder is world leader in industrial and public lighting systems and has specialised in the development, production and marketing of products for public lighting, decorative lighting, flood lighting and industrial lighting, of the highest quality. Saliba is visiting Pakistan to meet prospective clients and to create awareness about their products. At a later stage, the firm may study the possibility of entering into a joint venture for local production of its lighting systems.

The Cotton Group Pakistan Liaison Office, which is at present buying readymade garments from Pakistan, will soon start procuring woven shirts in twill and denim fabric under brand-name Oregon. The average monthly order quantity comes up to 350,000 pieces.
