Muslim Ummah urged to forge unity

LAHORE: Speakers at the "International Imam Hussain peace conference" arranged by the Tehrik Haqooq-e-Jafferia here on Saturday said that the Islamic Ummah is facing tough time and unity in its ranks is a must to amicably face all the challenges.

Pakistan Democratic Party (PDP) and Pakistan Awami Ittehad (PAI) Chief Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan, Jamaat Ahle-Hadith Chief Allama Zubair Ahmad Zaheer, Maulana Mushtaq Hussein Jaffery, Sahibzada Saeed-ur-Rehman and various others spoke on the occasion.

Nawabzada Nasrullah said that the Muslim Ummah on the whole was facing various challenges. He said over 70,000 youths had been martyred in the occupied Kashmir while Mosques and residences of the civilians were burnt.

He regretted that the role of silent spectator was being played by the Muslim countries against Russian aggression on Chechnya. He said he derived inspiration from "Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA)" to launch movements against dictatorship and tyranny and for restoration of democracy.

Maulana Zubair Ahmed Zaheer addressing the conference claimed that the same situation exist in the world now in which Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) was martyred. Father James Channan, representative of Pop John Paul II, in his address said that every religion preach for love, fraternity and tolerance. He said peace could only be ensured in a society when justice prevailed there.

Tehrik Haqooq-e-Jafferia Chief Mushtaq Hussain Jaffery said that Muslims could only come out of crisis by following the teachings of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA). Jamiat Ittehad-ul-Ulema President Sahibzada Qari Saeed-ur-Rehman said that realisation had already emerged in the Muslim Ummah that they need unity and love.

Later, Nasrullah Khan distributed "peace awards" among different personalities.
