Lahore: The Collector of Customs collected Rs 5,251.75 million during July-March 1999-2000 as compared to Rs 4,318.45 million during the corresponding period of last fiscal showing an increase of Rs 933.3 million or 22 percent.

This collection also exceeded budgetary target of Rs 4,840 million fixed by the Central Board of Revenue for the said period by exceeding the same by eight percent. The monthly target fixed for the month of March 2000 was Rs 565 million against which the Collectorate collected Rs 594.69 million, which is higher by Rs 29.69 million or five percent, says a press release issued here on Saturday.

The collection also remained higher by Rs 55 million or 35 percent if compared with the actual collection during March 1999 which were Rs 439.31 million.

The collectorate in a crackdown seized 111 non-duty paid vehicles from March 16 to 31, 2000 after the expiry of amnesty scheme on March 15, valuing Rs 104.90 million involving an amount of Rs 59.97 million as duty and taxes. Majority of the vehicles are luxury including Land Cruiser, Pajero, Hilux etc.

The Collector while appreciating the efforts of the officers and staff of the collectorate has asked them to work with more dedication during the last quarter of the current financial year with due regard to respect and dignity of the taxpayers.
