SUBJECT:
SALES TAX ON PHARMACEUTICALS
I am directed to enclose a cop of dated 28th
March, 2002, received from M/s. Pharmacia Pakistan (Private) Limited, Islamabad on the
subject cited above and to say that it had already been decided in the meeting held in the
Central Board of Revenue on 22nd March, 2002, and concur by representatives of
Ministry of Health that the pharmaceutical manufacturers will be allowed to affix stickers
or to stamp the new prices on the packets, containers, packages, etc., showing amount of
sales tax, on existing stocks (regardless of where they are located). A copy of
Board’s letter dated 22nd March, 2002 is enclosed.
2. It is, therefore, requested that the Chief Drug Inspector, Health Department may be
advised to withdraw the case made out against the said manufacturer.
